The Wisdom of "I Don't Know"

Why admitting ignorance is more valuable than ever in the age of AI.

In a world where systems can generate confident-sounding answers on almost any topic, the willingness to say "I don't know" becomes a kind of superpower. It signals intellectual honesty, curiosity, and the ability to hold uncertainty—qualities that distinguish thoughtful humans from systems that merely pattern-match.

AI can help us explore our ignorance. It can surface what we don't know, suggest directions, and refine our questions. But it cannot replace the humility required to admit that we don't have the answer. That humility is the foundation of learning, and of intelligence amplification.
