The Paradox of Humility in a Digital Age

Why intellectual humility becomes more important as AI capabilities expand.

The more powerful our tools, the easier it is to overestimate our understanding. We can produce polished outputs, access vast information, and feel competent—while actually knowing less. The paradox: humility is both harder and more essential when AI is in the loop.

Intellectual humility—the willingness to be wrong, to seek feedback, and to update—is a cornerstone of intelligence amplification. It keeps us from conflating fluent output with true understanding and helps us use AI as a partner in thinking rather than a substitute for it.
